Super Lauwersmeer, a well-known Dutch shipyard, launches its new flagship: the Super Lauwersmeer SLX54. At 17 meters, the newcomer is an ambitious and innovative boat, full of novel solutions and ‘alternative’ layouts. In fifty years, in fact, the shipyard had never made a boat of this size, a novelty that therefore required new studies and allowed it to be able to break out of the box, designing a cruiser with a unique XL interior.
Super Lauwersmeer SLX 54
The Super Lauwersmeer SLX54 was born in Holland, a country characterized by difficult seas and many bridges and waterways. An unusual context for us and one that reveals a number of perhaps unexpected attentions and details. The new SLX54, on the other hand, takes this into account well, and adapts itself to perfection, thus being able to move nimbly both in the Mediterranean and in its homeland. Starting with the arrangement of the volumes in fact, the boat adopts a whole series of novel solutions, perfect precisely, to offer comfort and privacy in different contexts.
Super Lauwersmeer SLX54 – Board Spaces.
Beginning at the stern, the first welcoming space is a large aft platform, a hybrid of cockpit and swim platform, protected by high walls at the sides but open to the stern. This is where any free-standing furniture is located, and accesses to interior spaces and the ‘fly,’ which really is not a fly, as we shall see.

Looking first at the interior, we immediately find a first living room, served by a full L-shaped kitchen, sofa and coffee table, and dining area. This area, overlooking the cockpit and the sea thanks to a large opening window, is airy and high-ceilinged, set just above the waterline, a solution chosen specifically to provide privacy when in the canals or harbor, thus preventing views from outside.

Instead of having a single open-space volume, this lounge is thus lowered from the bridge deck, which is accessed via a short flight of stairs. Here we find the wheelhouse and a second convivial space, served by a table and sofas. Already here we can see the revolution of spaces, on this double volume at different heights, which, however, continues further, descending towards the bow, for the sleeping area, and rising half a meter towards the stern, for the exteriors.

In fact, going up to the stern, we find a hybrid of deck and fly, a space complete with external wheelhouse, mobile bar and lounge area. A fly that is not a fly, because it is located only one step high from the forward spaces, easily reached even in maneuvering then, although, however, elevated above the cockpit, accessible by a ladder prorpio as if, instead, it were a fly. A unique solution designed to ensure both large interior volumes and ease of operation.

Returning to the inner bridge deck, going down to the bow, are the two double cabins (one double and one twin), the bathrooms and the engine room, the latter large and well accessible.

Propulsion and Performance
Looking at motorization, the 54′ offers several options: a pair of Volvo D4 175 PS (10 Kn); a pair of Volvo D4 270 PS (12 Kn); and a pair of Yanmar 6LY440 440 PS (15 Kn). The shipyard, however, announces that it also has a hybrid and an electric-powered version under consideration.
