Speaking of multihulls, the New Zealand shipyard McConaghy is one of the big boys, known all over the world. In Italy they are imported by MultiYachts of Florence. From the super motor trimaran Adastra(we talked about it here), over 40 meters long, today we come to the McConaghy MC63p. This new motor catamaran from McConaghy has all the makings to win over many owners. The first customer? One of the world’s most experienced sailors (and sailors): Grant Dalton, with appearances at Whitbread and Volvo as well as America’s Cup manager with Emirates Team New Zealand.
McConaghy MC63p
Designed for long sailing, the McConaghy MC63p has a range of 1,500 miles. Its cruising speed is 20 knots while its maximum promised speed is 36 knots. A very interesting figure for a motor catamaran of this size. How did they arrive at this result? With maximally optimized hull shapes and fixed foils, all powered by two 875-horsepower Scania engines.
The exterior design and naval architecture were done by KER Design. These lines echo the profile and style of all McConaghy multihulls. This McConaghy motor catamaran features two different flybridge options. The aft flybridge option allows a range of seating behind the helm with a sun pad recessed into the cabin roof. The extended flybridge option, on the other hand, creates a larger space for relaxing or stowing water toys, with the addition of a deck at the top of the cabin.
McConaghy MC63p – Interior
There are three internal arrangements available. You can choose between a three- or four-cabin layout or a configuration that places the master suite on the main deck. The twin forward cabins, on the other hand, allow the crew to be accommodated on board. The living room is a large open space with glass panels flanking it. Full-height bi-fold glass doors connect this space to the aft deck.
Interior styling for McConaghy’s range of multihulls comes from Design Unlimited, a studio with experience in large custom yachts. An interesting feature of the McConaghy MC63p is that the shipyard also allows the owner to be able to choose their favorite interior designer to create a unique interior for their boat. The interior design for this first MC63p model is by Kit Carlier.
The MC63p carries its tender on a stern platform, winged and launched by a hydraulic lift system. A tender or water toys can also be stowed on the foredeck.
