Explomar unveils a 300HP electric outboard motor, theExplomar Wave 300. Presented as the right mix of “performance, green and particularly advanced,” it promises an attractive weight of about 180 kg. While waiting for its official unveiling, let’s take a look at the features known so far.

Explomar Wave 300

The new Explomar Wave 300 presents, as we mentioned, a good power-to-weight ratio. Using high-quality, automotive-derived batteries (HEDB – High Energy Density Lithium Battery), the weight of the batteries also points as low as possible, for an energy density of 175 Wh/kg. In addition, the fully electronic, drive-by-wire powertrain management system and control unit allow easy engine management, thus enabling precise supervision and continuously adjusting power delivery to the thrust requirements of the engine, or engines if more than one is used.

Confirming the sustainability studies developed, in addition to the quality of the batteries and the virtually sustainable propulsion (in accordance with the sustainability of reference electric production), the cooling system is also active on this front. Developed as a closed-loop system, it not only prevents contact between salt water and internal components (ideal for safeguarding the engine from corrosive phenomena) but, theoretically, it should also limit the input of heated, particle-laden water into the sea, thus limiting its impact. All this, condensed into a compact, aesthetically pleasing, but, above all, familiar design, with lines and volumes of a classic endothermic outboard.
