Spaceship? No, a new solar catamaran by Cupra, Silent Yachts and Volkswagen

cupra yachtSilent Yachts is one of the shipyards that is pushing harder on the total electric boat. There are many full-electric catamarans in the shipyard under construction at the moment. Now, however, the shipyard is presenting a whole new project: a fully electric catamaran designed by the Cupra car brand with the Volkswagen MEB platform. And it looks like a spaceship.

Solar catamaran by Silent Yachts with Cupra and Volkswagen

The three brands have decided to work together on this solar-powered catamaran. Silent Yachts, a shipyard with a solid background in this kind of boat, will supply the catamaran that will be propelled by the MEB modular electric platform. To give an even more futuristic touch starting from the external lines, will be designed by the car brand Cupra based in Barcelona.

“I’m happy to collaborate with our partners in this exciting new project” – said Michael Köhler, founder and CEO of Silent Yachts – “The Volkswagen Group is one of the most advanced players in the electric car market and I’m sure together we can do something really special on the water.

How this solar-powered catamaran is developing

The project of an electric solar-powered catamaran has brought all three company together in one goal. Each one will bring its own background and vision to the project. Cupra for futuristic design and Silent Yacht its experience in the construction of sustainable propulsion yachts. Volkswagen will offer its modular electric drive matrix (MEB) that contributes to electric mobility and emission reduction.

How the new electric catamaran will look like

The new solar-powered electric catamaran will be able to navigate silently and with an unlimited cruising range, due to alternative propulsion systems. This new experience of nature and water sports will be allowed by the solar electric propulsion system developed by Silent Yachts, which powers the boat’s electric propulsion and all its energy needs on board. The objective of this catamaran will be to guarantee more comfort, independence, reliability, and safety with less maintenance and fewer costs than any thermal propulsion. Starting from fuel and energy supply.

  1. Looks awesome and I really like the color! If the flybridge (the top level) can be larger with more usable space, and panels above, that would be even better in my opinion. Also, if the front of the boat had seating or pads to relax outdoors; it appears there is none. What lengths are you planning to offer?

  2. I would like to be a first adapter of the Capra which is awesome! I agree , needs a front sitting area with a Front opening door way from the saloon saloon like the Leopards. It should also come with the kiting option that Silent Yaght offers.
