11,597 berths are waiting for you in the Italian marinas

THERE ARE 11,597 BERTHS IN THE 84 ITALIAN MARINAS waiting to be booked. This is the result of a survey we carried out on the data recently issued by Confindustria Nautica in its annual report “Boating in numbers 2019”.

The study has classified the structures that can be considered as “marinas”, that is fully-equipped facilities exclusively dedicated to recreational boating. They are 84 and have 44,239 berths on a total of 287 port facilities and 66,695 berths. When only “marinas” are considered, the average filling percentage that we found in a sample survey is 75% of the total, from which the availability is 11,597 unoccupied moorings. So, if you’re looking for a berth in a marina, make a thorough search and don’t trust those saying “there is no mooring available in this area”.

But where are these 84 marinas in Italy? The main regions are Liguria and Sardinia in the Tyrrhenian Sea and Friuli Venezia Giulia in the Adriatic with 13 and 12 facilities (Sardinia) dedicated to recreational boating. They are followed by Emilia Romagna and Veneto (8 marinas) and Tuscany (7 marinas). Surprising is the lack of high-level facilities in Lazio, where there are just 3 marinas.
