The Swift Trawler range is a great Beneteau classic. These are boats that are born for cruising, and there are over 1,000 owners worldwide who have chosen to sail a Swift Trawler. A new addition has now been added to the large family (which has boats from 35 to 62 feet). It is the new Beneteau Swift Trawler 48, nearly 15 meters long (14.74 meters overall) and 4.50 meters wide. Today we see a brief preview of this new motor yacht ready to debut in 2022.

With its three double cabins and an optional double berth in the salon, this boat actually sleeps up to eight. A middle model between the top of the range, the Grand Trawler 62, and the small 35-footer, it is ideal for those who want to make long sailing their style on the water. The Beneteau Swift Trawler 48 is thus what is called a bluewater, rated for 12 people in CE B category.

Beneteau Swift Trawler 48 – Interior

On board this Beneteau powerboat, everything is designed to create a comfortable space even for long stays on board. The Swift Trawler 48 can accommodate up to eight people thanks to its three cabins below deck and dinette. Much attention has been given to storage areas in all sections of the boat, while comfort and volumes allow for almost domestic livability.

Regarding the cabins, the forward master stateroom features a double berth that lifts up with storage space underneath. There are overhead lockers for wardrobe, large windows on the hull with recessed portholes, and plenty of light. The bathroom includes a separate shower stall with a teak slatted seat. The left guest cabin has a large window, storage space, closet and two single bunks that can be converted into a double. The starboard guest cabin has two portholes, a double transverse berth and a double-door closet. A washer/dryer can also possibly be housed in this space. Returning to the fourth “cabin” we are talking about the dinette, which in fact converts into a double bed with curtains around it for more privacy.

Beneteau Swift Trawler 48 – Motorization and Range

As with the Grand Trawler 62, the water lines are the work of MICAD, which designed a semi-planing hull. This makes it possible to optimize fuel efficiency in all speed ranges, an essential element for those about to go on a long cruise. With 1930 liters of fuel on board, you can also have a range of +600nm at 9 knots of displacement speed. At 18 knots of speed (in glide) the range is reduced to 280nm, maintaining a 10% fuel reserve. 640 liters of fresh water can also be stowed on board. In terms of engines, which are easily accessible, the standard torque consists of two 380-horsepower 6.7-liter Cummins QSB 6.7s, giving a maximum speed of 21 knots. With the 425hp engines, there is a maximum speed of 25 knots.

In the case of our test, the boat under test was powered by a pair of cummins of 380 horsepower each, standard motorization for the boat. In terms of weight, about 75% of fuel was taken on board, compared to a 1930 L capacity tank, and 0 L of water, compared to a 640 L capacity tank. These are the data recorded in the test context:

RPM Speed (KN – MN/H) Consumption (L/H)
600 2.3 2
1000 6.6 8
1500 9.0 24
2000 12.0 48
2500 16.2 82
3000 22.4 118
3077 24.0 140
